An Afternoon with Sylvia Plath
24th June 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm£5
The Sylvia Plath theme continues after Andrew Armitage’s morning workshop with three Plath-related events. Saturday afternoon begins with poetry readings from three exciting and multi-award-winning/nominated younger female poets – Melissa Lee-Houghton, Kim Moore and Charlotte Wetton.
The three poets will be joined by Heather Clark, the world’s leading Plath scholar, for a panel discussion (chaired by Andrew Armitage) on the theme, ‘Over fifty years after her death, what is the relevance of Sylvia Plath’s poetry to younger female poets today?’ Heather is the author of a major biography of Sylvia Plath to be published by Knopf in 2018, and an influential earlier study of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath entitled, ‘The Grief of Influence’.
To conclude the afternoon, Heather will give a talk on Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes – ‘A happy Heathcliff and Cathy’: Sylvia Plath in Brontë Country’.
This promises to be a stunning event – anyone interested in the life and work of Sylvia Plath – and her creative relationship with Ted Hughes – will not want to miss it!
