A rare opportunity to attend a school re-union at the actual school pupils attended paid off in style last Friday as 32 ex school pupils from Mexborough Grammar School (1957-1964) gathered for a fabulous party at what is now Mexborough Business Centre.
Adorned with shimmering black and white tables, the hall was lit up and filled with familiar tunes of the day, as the ex-pupils ate’ school meal’ themed food, watched a slideshow of more than 100 old school photographs and reunions, chatted and danced the night away, 6 decades after they had once walked the same floors as children.
Guests approached the old Head Masters office with mixed feelings as it is now the bar.
As pupils were taken on a tour around their old classrooms and corridors, an emotional journey of nostalgia unfolded, featuring photographs and the recollection of old stories as well as the exchange of new ones.
Ex pupils had travelled from as far away as Devon and South Wales to be there. With wine supplied by an ex pupil who owns and manages a vineyard in Australia!
It was such a special night in so many ways and one which Mexborough Business Centre was proud to host and be part of.
A big thank you to all those who attended and those who made it possible, especially Joe Askew, the creator and organiser of the event!
